Meesha Shafi’s Reluctant Fundamentalist to open Venice Film Festival
The 69th edition of the Venice Film Festival will open with the out-of-competition screening of Mira Nair’s thriller The Reluctant Fundamentalist, organisers announced on Sunday
Reluctant Fundamentalist is an adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s novel and is a political thriller that follows the story of a young Pakistani man, chasing corporate success on Wall Street, who ultimately finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family’s homeland.
Filming took place in Delhi, Istanbul, New York, Atlanta, and Lahore. The film stars Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Martin Donovan, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Haluk Bilginer and Meesha Shafi. While director Shimit Amin has edited the movie, the costumes have been done by Arjun Bhasin.
