‘Thakkan’ is inching along with Saba Qamar in the lead. The actress convincingly plays a girl who does odd jobs to support her family; oblivious to the fact that she is being exploited in the hands of her own mother.
The same actress plays the damsel in distress (a.k.a Haleema) in yet another show titled ‘Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai’; A story of a perfect ‘bahu’ who struggles to become an equally good wife despite all her efforts. The last episode showed things moving from bad to worse; her husband tell her bluntly to either stop trying to woo him or she would be thrown out of the house. I wonder when will ‘Haleema’ stop being a doormat and develop some self respect.
The first episode of ‘Sabz Pari Laal Kabootar’ aired last week. The drama starring Faisal Qureshi, Nimra Bucha, Mohib Mirza, Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and others shows immense promise and addresses a number of issues in society. From drugs to having female children, many core issues are shown. Hopefully this drama will succeed in creating awareness and a notable impact.
Talking about ills in the society, the second episode of ‘Manjali’ was worth watching. Eve teasing is a nuisance without any doubt and I was happy to see that not all drama damsels resort to silently crying in the comfort of their rooms after they have been harassed. The leading lady of this drama snatched a bat from the harasser and gave him a taste of his own medicine. ‘Manjali’ is not afraid to show her displeasure but only the future episodes will show whether she is strong enough to face the problems life throws at her.\
Drama serial ‘Durr-e-Shahwar’ ends this week and many of us will not be budging from television screens. This is one drama that has captivated us and gripped us so strongly that we all stay hooked despite how slowly the story has progressed. Its pace has been the beauty of ‘Durr-e-Shahwar’ since we were allowed to experience all that the character faced.
